Event Format

Climb for Cancer is structured as a climbing marathon, with the winning team being the one to climb the highest within the allotted time of competition

DURATION

Length of competition will be 4 hours

TEAMS

Made up of 2 to 4 climbers of any age, male or female

OBJECT

To be the team to climb the highest (wall height multiplied by the number of laps the team completes) plus the bonus number of feet corresponding to funds raised

FUNDRAISING OBJECTIVE

Each participant must raise a MINIMUM of $50, on top of a gym’s day pass or membership, but are encouraged to raise well beyond that to advance your team to a higher starting point as $1 = 2 feet


Rules

  • All participants must have a waiver on file at participating gym
  • All existing gym rules apply
  • All funds raised and gym passes must be submitted before start of competition
  • Each team must be comprised of maximum four and minimum two climbers
  • Thorough safety checks must be completed before each and every climber begins to climb – safety comes before speed
  • Remember it is a marathon, not a sprint
  • Minimum two members of each team must be belay certified or belay tested before the start of competition – this way there is always and MUST always be a belay certified team member belaying the active climber
  • Only two climbers per team can be tied in at once and only one climber can be on the wall at one time, with the second climber only allowed to start climbing once the other climber is completely off the wall
  • Climber must reach the top of the wall to gain the maximum feet of one lap. If climber comes down before reaching the top, no feet are gained

FUNDRAISING INCENTIVE $1 = 2 feet

EVERY DOLLAR RAISED EQUALS TWO FEET TO ADD TO THE TOTAL NUMBER OF FEET CLIMBED DURING THE ALLOTTED TIME OF THE EVENT.

DONATIONS

Cash, cheque and online donations all accepted. Tax receipts are available for donations over $10. For Cash and Cheque donations, please print off and fill out the pledge form (download it here) and bring all donations to check-in on the day of the event. All donations must be handed in prior to the start of the event for them to count towards your team’s final score! Cheques to be written out to, “Holland Bloorview Foundation”.


COMPETITION EXAMPLE

Team 1 climbs 200 laps at 20ft, equalling 4000ft & raised a total of $100 as a team.

Their total height and score is 4000 + (100×2) = 4200

Meanwhile Team 2 also climbs 200 laps at 20ft, equalling 4000ft BUT raised a total of $300 as a team. Their total height and score is 4000 + (300×2) = 4600

Team 2 wins!
